List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?
Trying to pick only 3 is difficult!
#1: “The Lost World” by Michael Crichton. I came across this book not long after the movie came out, and I read it in 4 days! I got the book over spring (or Easter) break, and I remember staying up late on my days off because I was so into the story. This book was the one that instilled my love of Michael Crichton, science, and his very specific blend of actual science, adventure, and potential future outcomes.
#2: The “Harry Potter” books by J.K. Rowling. I discovered this series at the end of my freshman year of college (when just the first 4 books were out) and read all 4 in a week. Obviously, I was hooked. When another book was going to be released, I re-read all the books that came before to refresh myself. I fell in love with the story, the characters, the battle of good vs. evil… all of it. It still remains one of my biggest hyper-focus topics at all times. I typically fall asleep to one of the first 3 movies at least once or twice a week, and I have decorated the majority of my home with stuff from the books and/or movies.
#3: The “All Souls” series by Deborah Harkness. The first 3 novels are now a show (on Netflix) and were first described to me as “an adult Harry Potter.” There are several themes throughout the series of books that sparked my curiosity. I enjoyed the use of mythical creatures in this story. I also haven’t read a fantasy/sci-fi book before with such great stories! Her first 3 books about “witches” are very interesting. I loved how this book starts to develop the characters!
